The recent controversy surrounding the lack of diversity in housing, education, and health care has led to many calls for the end of redlining. These color-coded maps discouraged investment in health care, infrastructure, and mortgages in disadvantaged neighborhoods. These red lines often surrounded neighborhoods where the population was disproportionately Black, Catholic, or immigrant. They also often coincided with lack of tree canopy.
