In 1896, a large hotel was built in Delight to house the local drummers. Soon after, merchants began to emerge, including A. E. Westbrook, C. E. Reid, Bose & Jim Bratton, and the Geiser brothers. O. L. Mckinney also opened the town's first cold drink stand. In the 1880s, the area had a shortage of doctors, and it was not long before Dr. Rice was hired. Afterward, Dr. Rodgers moved to Delight from Mississippi to serve the community.
