The first permanent residents came in 1870, when the Arkansas and Louisiana Railroad connected Mineral Springs with Nashville, Tennessee. In 1907, the Brown Henderson Improvement Company built a short-line railroad connecting Mineral Springs to the Kansas City Southern Railroad. The railroad's main purpose was to transport timber to nearby cities. In addition, the railroad opened in 1907, and two doctors were given a 99-year lease to practice medicine.
