Sulphur Rock, Arkansas Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

The following article contains a brief history of the population and steets of Sulphur Rock City, Arkansas. The population in the city peaked in the early nineteenth century, when it numbered 252. The following year, however, the population declined to just 227. By 1960, the population dwindled again to 225. By 1980, the population was back up to 316. By 1990, it had grown to 356. By 2010, the population was at 456. In 2009, ninety-eight percent of the population was white, and twelve percent of the population lived below the poverty line.

The city was once a thriving baseball town. It had a small ballpark called Sulphur Dell, but attendance dwindled. The last professional game was played in September 1963, when Nashville's Charlie Teuscher belted three home runs in a doubleheader. In 1965, Sulphur Dell was converted to a speedway. The stadium closed down on April 16, 1969.

First Tennessee Park is located in the north of Nashville, and was once home to the Tennessee Americans, Blues, Tigers, and Seraphs, which were all members of the Southern League. The park was also home to the Oakland A's, Chicago White Sox, and Pittsburgh Pirates. The baseball team now plays in a stadium in downtown Nashville. Despite the lack of a state-owned parking garage, the park was a success for the city. The first game was so well-attended that vendors ran out of hot chicken.
