Population and steets of Mansfield Depot city are calculated from the 2010 census. In that year, the city had a population of 181,045 residents. Fifty-one percent of residents were white. The remaining people were black or African American. Twenty-nine percent were Hispanic, including Puerto Ricans, who accounted for 12.7% of the population. Overall, the median age was 33.4 years.

In the early 1900s, the town had fewer than 500 residents. As a result of the World War I, a flood of European wheat entered the local market. By 1920, the population was less than 500, and only a handful of families resided in Mansfield.

In the mid-1990s, the city began to attract new construction. In 1997, a convention center was built along the DCU Center arena in the downtown area. A few years later, the historic Union Station reopened after undergoing a $32 million renovation. The city also welcomed a new university, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. In 2007, the college opened its first campus at the city's Gateway Park center.

The city is home to many colleges, universities, and high schools. It has also hosted many refugees over the years. Over 2000 refugees have migrated to the city in recent years, with most coming from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Somalia, and Afghanistan.
