Belle Glade is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida. It is situated near the southeastern shore of Lake Okeechobee. At the time of the 2000 census, the population of the city was 14,906 people. The city is sometimes referred to as "Muck City" because of its sugarcane fields that are often covered with muck. The area produces nearly half of the nation's sugarcane. Although located in South Florida, the city has a distinctly Florida Heartland vibe.

As part of the Florida Heartland, Belle Glade is home to a diverse range of agricultural businesses. The city is one of the country's largest suppliers of vegetables, fruits, and sugar cane. It is also home to sod farms and ornamental cane fields. The community has kept its agricultural roots throughout the years, but has grown considerably. Its population now exceeds 18,000, and it has a public school and a campus of Palm Beach State College.

The city is home to many notable people. Nora Zeale Hurston, who wrote the novel "Pretty Little Things," lived in the city during her time there. The city is also home to talented athletes, including Kelvin Benjamin, Jessie Hester, Santonio Holmes, and Fred Taylor.

Although Belle Glade City grew alongside neighboring towns, the town did not have any permanent structures until the railroad arrived. After the railroad arrived, Belle Glade applied for a post office, and began to attract large crowds.
