Despite the high quality of life in Camilla, crime rates are higher than other Sparse Suburban areas. About half of the population spends a lot of time thinking about safety. The Camilla City, GA area is primarily white with a majority of 67.8% white residents. The population is comprised of 1.3% Asian and 4.9% Hispanic or Latino. The city is the county seat of Mitchell County. It is located south of Baconton on U.S. Highway 19 and is home to several successful businesses. Camilla is known for producing peanuts and pecans, cotton, pine trees, beef, vegetables, and poultry.

There are 6 members on Camilla City's council, and each member serves a four-year term, until their successors are elected. One of the city's council members is Robert Holton Moody, a professional photographer and journalist. He has worked for CNN, FOX, and ABC, among others. His work has been featured in a National Geographic book called "Devoted".

As the city continues to grow, so do its population and the number of people living in it. Camilla had a population of 5,568 in 2010, and the city hosts an annual festival, Gnat Days, in May. Despite the low-density demographics, Camilla has plenty to offer. Its alligator farm is the top producer of alligator hides in the world.
