Tunnel Hill, GA is a small town located in northwest Whitfield County, south of Catoosa County, and a part of the Dalton MSA. It's named for the 1,497-foot Chetoogeta Mountain Railroad Tunnel, which opened in 1849. At first known as Doe Run, the community was incorporated on March 4, 1848. In 1849, steel-maker Mark A. Cooper, then working for the Western & Atlantic Railroad, was named the town's first mayor.
