The city of White Bird, Idaho, is located in Idaho County. The population of this small community was 91 as of the 2010 census, compared to 106 in 2000. White Bird is a small community in the southwest corner of the Camas Prairie, near the crossing point of the Salmon River used by Lewis and Clark. In 1877, White Bird was home to the Battle of the White Bird Canyon, the first major battle in the Nez Perce War. This battle proved to be a significant defeat for the U.S. Army in the area.

The population of Red Bird was 218 in 1930. This number rose to 411 in 1950, but dropped to 310 in 1960 and just two hundred and ten in 1980. However, this town slowly rebuilt itself in the twenty-first century. Today, the population of Red Bird stands at 137, and is growing. In 1920, the population of Red Bird was 336. Today, Red Bird is an attractive small town for newcomers to the area.
