It is the 364th largest city in the state of Illinois and the 5375th largest in the United States. The population of Hometown has increased by 6.58% since the 2010 census. The total area of Hometown is 0.5 square miles. It has a population density of 8,484 people per square mile.

The census of the population of Hometown in 2016 revealed that the city's population was fairly evenly distributed. Twenty-four percent of its residents were under the age of 18, while seven percent were aged 18 to 24. The age distribution was similar in nearby cities: 29.8% were aged 25 to 44, and 19.2% were 65 and older. Almost all households in Hometown had at least one domestic dog.
