The population of LaPlace City is approximately 13,647 people, and is located in the state of Louisiana. LaPlace is located near the southern terminus of Interstates 55 and 10, as well as US 51. The city is located approximately 25 miles west of New Orleans. This area was inhabited by the Chitimacha people before European colonization began, and their land once extended eastward to the Gulf of Mexico. The Chitimacha still live in the area on a reservation in St. Mary Parish.
