Mooreland is located in the state of Oklahoma, 10 miles east of Woodward. It is a town of 1,190 residents, according to the 2010 census. Mooreland is located in the shallow lands north of the North Canadian River. It is located at an elevation of approximately 1,900 feet. The town was developed in the mid-19th century after the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad built a line through the area. This railroad provided a shipping point for the surrounding area. In 1893, the Cherokee Outlet opened, attracting the attention of tourists and locals alike.

The first post office was established in March 1902. The Mooreland Leader newspaper was launched in 1903 and continues to run today. In the beginning, the local economy relied on farming and ranching.
