If you're wondering where to live in Otisco City, you're not alone. The murder rate is higher in some parts of the city than in others, especially when you consider how few people live there. For example, the northwest part of the city has higher murder rates than the west, but this doesn't mean that the western part of the city is unsafe. The area south of Syracuse, including Otisco, was occupied for centuries by the Onondaga People, one of the original 5 nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. The Onondaga called the area, which included nine miles of creeks, "Us-te-ke", which means bitter-nut hickory. In 1806 this area was incorporated into a separate town, and the name was changed to Ostisco. The Onondaga word for this place, Ostisco, means "low water" in their native language.

Otisco is located in Onondaga County, New York. As of the 2010 census, Otisco had a population of 2,541, up from 2,457 in 2000. By 2020, it's expected that population will reach 2,534 in the city. Unlike some other cities in the region, Otisco will be home to a large concentration of military and correctional facilities.
