It sits on the confluence of the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River, which flows into the Ohio River. West Newton has a temperate climate and is best visited during the summer and least pleasant during the winter. In the past, the city was an important manufacturing center for boilers and radiators. Its population was 2,633 at the 2010 census.
