The population of Brandon has grown rapidly over the past few years. In 1904, the city was just two square miles, but now has a population of around 70,000. It is a highly agricultural community with several industries, including food production and manufacturing. In recent years, Brandon has added a few new businesses to its economic base. A drugstore on Parsons Avenue and Hopewell Road became a popular hangout for teenagers. Another major business was Scogin's famous variety store. In 1953, the city got its first physician.

The population of Brandon is home to a diverse mix of residents. The west end is popular for young families and first-time home buyers, and is located near many amenities. In the summer, you can swim in the lake. In the winter, you can try ice fishing or cross-country ski. The city has a beautiful waterfront park known as Curran Park, which is along the Assiniboine River. The city has many parks and other outdoor spaces to enjoy.

The population of Brandon has grown in spurts over the years. The first general store was opened by Dan Galvin in 1890, and the first school was built on Parsons Avenue. In 1911, Lovic Brandon opened a store. His daughter Victoria Brandon helped out by boarding new teachers. Lovic Brandon and Mark Brandon organized a Baptist church in Valrico, and later moved it to Brandon. In 1930, it became the First Baptist Church.
