A brief history of Council Bluffs is provided in this article. In the late 19th century, the area's "red-light district" consisted of 10 brothels along Pierce Street east of Park Avenue and three brothels on West Broadway. A newspaper article from 1890 noted the "places of vice and corruption" along Pierce, including Stella Long's above the Ogden House, the infamous "terrible den" at Market and Vine, and the bagnio at Eighth and West Broadway.
