Decorah is a city in Winneshiek County, Iowa. It is the county seat of Winneshiek County. From 1855 to 1856, it served as the site of the U.S. Land Office, a hub for immigrants seeking land patents in northern Iowa. In 1869, the Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad opened a branch to the city.

Decorah is home to a museum dedicated to Norwegian culture. Since 1861, Luther College, an Evangelical Lutheran university, has been located here. During the summer, the town celebrates Norwegian culture with the Nordic Fest. The city's Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum is the country's largest museum dedicated to one ethnic group. The town's newspaper, Decorah Posten, was the largest Norwegian language paper until 1972.
