But, before you get too excited, there are a few facts you should know. First, Elk Falls has a remarkably high percentage of white residents. Its white population makes it the fourth most racially diverse city in the U.S.

In 2010, the median age of residents in Elk Falls City was 52.9 years. Twenty-three percent of residents were under the age of 18, while 4.5% were aged between 18 and 24. Although the county seat was located in Elk Falls, it wasn't always that way. The city was originally the geographical center of the county. The Governor of Howard County had the power to decide which county seat was the most appropriate for the area. The county seat was chosen in Elk Falls based on political considerations, but other parties began agitating against the new location. It was not until 1858 that the county seat was finally chosen, but the city was named in that capacity by the Governor.
