Girard, Kansas Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

The population of Girard is about 9,159 people, and the city is situated between Pittsburgh, PA and Cleveland, OH. This mid-sized industrial town is located about halfway between these two cities. The number of crimes per 1,000 people is higher in the west than in the east, but the crime rate isn't always a good indicator of a safe neighborhood. In 2016, there were 45 reported evictions in Girard.

In 2016, the median age of the city's residents was 39 years old, and the population was divided between males and females. Twenty-four percent of residents were under the age of 18, while twenty-four percent of people were between the ages of 25 and 44. One in every five residents was 65 years or older, and eight percent were under the age of 18. There were about 289 persons per household, and the gender ratio was 48.2% males and 51.8% females.

The city is home to some of the nation's best public schools, and its students are making more academic progress than their peers in other districts. Nevertheless, achievement gaps are still a problem. A test of science scores gives a clear indication of under-support of certain student groups in the city. A large difference on this test indicates that students in the district need more help in this area. The school district works hard to reduce the achievement gap, and Girard City Schools are addressing this problem.
