This community is home to several small villages. One of the earliest is Gates Mills, located on the southeastern part of the city. The other is Mayfield Centre, which lies at the intersection of S.O.M. Center and Wilson Mills Roads. In the 1870s, each settlement had a post office, mills, and at least one doctor and church.
