In the early twentieth century, Gordon Heights began when a wealthy Louis Fife offered land for $10. He hoped that this would bring his families a better life on Long Island. The offer included a $10 monthly or weekly payment, which they quickly realized was too good to pass up. In addition, the US Census classifies Hispanic/Latino residents as ethnic, rather than racial.
