Greyhawk is a campaign setting for Dungeons & Dragons. While Dave Arneson's Blackmoor campaign predated Greyhawk by over a year, it was closely associated with the game's development. The supplements provided basic descriptions of the states and expected the DM to customize the setting to meet their needs. The setting includes arctic wastes, deserts, rivers, and archipelaes.
The Greyhawk city was originally published as a supplement to the 2nd edition of Dungeons & Dragons. In this supplement, the city is expanded with more landmarks, monsters, and magical spells. Geographical features, prominent citizens, and avatars of deities are also included. There are six plot outlines, including an introduction to the Greyhawk region. In addition to the original city, the Greyhawk supplement provides new information on its history, current population, and history.
The boxed set, From the Ashes, was released by TSR in 1992. The boxed set included a large, four-color hex map of the area surrounding Greyhawk City, quick adventure cards, and two 96-page books. This edition also featured a number of maps and statistics about Greyhawk and its inhabitants. However, the QuickFacts statistics are based on several sources.
When the game was first released, it featured a dungeon-creating cult named Tenser. Tenser was played by Gygax's son, Ernie. The game's dungeons contained dozens of adventures. The game's first version was written by Dave Arneson and he and his co-Dungeon Master, Rob Kuntz, were both involved in the game. Several subservient regions rebelled against the evil Oeridian empire.
