The city is located on the southwest side of Bossier City, Louisiana. From I-20, take Exit 22 - Airline Drive - and then merge with Old Minden Road (LA-72). Continue on Northgate Drive until you reach the Barksdale gate. The gate is open from 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday.

The city has a slightly higher than average population density. The air force base was established in 1933 and was renamed Barksdale Air Force Base in 1947.
