Maxfield is a small town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The town was incorporated on February 6, 1824. It was part of the Brighton Academy Grant. The town is triangular in shape and sits on the Piscataquis River. The town is split by the river, which empties into the Penobscot River. North Howland Road runs through Maxfield and crosses over it.

The new high school would stand two stories high and would be approximately 97 by 62 feet. It would be located 15 feet east of the present structure and would serve the district for many years. The brick building served as a high school from 1918 until 1953, and then as a junior high until 1976. The old junior high school buildings stood adjacent to the Maxfield Training Center until 1958. Both buildings stood on land that is now occupied by Farmington Place apartments.
