Originally called Cottonwood Station, Strong City was named after its vice-president, William Barstow Strong, who helped establish the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway. Strong City is located along U.S. Route 50. Historically, the Great Plains of North America were home to nomadic Native Americans. Later, the Kingdom of France claimed large parts of the land for themselves and secretly ceded New France to Spain.
