Petoskey City, Michigan, is a small city in Emmet County, Michigan. It is the 3rd largest county in Michigan by retail sales per capita, and has many businesses catering to tourists, including JC Penney, Meyer Ace Hardware, and two independent bookstores. There are also plans for a $60 million development project to include a hotel, mixed-use housing, and a convention center. The project, however, has been delayed. There are still plans to build a hotel and mixed-use housing in the city, and the city is the home to the Mayo Clinic of Northern Michigan.

In 2010, Petoskey had a population of 5,670 people. Ninety-five percent of residents were non-Hispanic white. Only four percent were African-American, and four percent were Native Americans. One percent of the population was Asian and 0.4% were from other races. There were also 1.89% Hispanic or Latino residents of any race.
