River Rouge is located in Wayne County, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. Its population was 7,903 at the 2010 census. Its major thoroughfares are West Jefferson Avenue and Coolidge Highway. The city's current mayor is Michael D. Bowdler.

The median age of residents was 33 years. Twenty-one percent of residents were under the age of 18, while ten percent of the population was between the ages of 18 and 24.
