The city's primary artery is East 2nd Street. This street serves as US Highway 2 and 53. US Highway 2 turns west at Belknap Street, while US Highway 53 follows East 2nd Street, where it eventually merges with Interstate 35, also known as Blatnik Bridge. Both highways are used for local and regional travel. The population of Superior Township is approximately 6,000 residents.

The city's hazard profile is considered to be primarily due to flooding. Flooding aggravates erosion in the area, but it also has a protective role because the clay soil is so temperamental. When dry, it is stable, but when wet, it shrinks. Because of this, flooding and rapid snowmelt can trigger landslides. In Superior, flooding is the most common hazard.

Dixboro was established in 1824 by Captain John Dix. His purchase of 450 acres of land (1.8 km2) led to the settlement of sixty lots. The town thrived for several years, but never incorporated to create a municipal government. In time, however, the town was outpaced by Ann Arbor, which soon became the largest city in the area. Dixboro is located east of Plymouth Road and Dixboro Road.
