Alberta City's population is fairly comparable to those of other provinces. In 2008, the province's population was four hundred thousand and sixty-nine. However, the median age was forty-six years old, with about 22.3% of people being under eighteen. Another third were between the ages of 25 and 44, while fifteen percent were 65 years old and older. The gender breakdown of the city was approximately fifty-three percent male and forty-six percent female.

Edmonton was founded in 1905, and in 2004, the city celebrated its centennial as a city. Located near the geographic center of the province, the city's elevation is six hundred and sixty-eight metres (two thousand nine hundred and eighty-seven feet).
