Blooming Prairie is a city in the state of Minnesota, United States. This city lies on the border between Dodge, Mower, and Freeborn counties. The city began as a railroad town that was home to Minnesota Central Railroad workers. The town's name came from the railroad official's wife. The settlers soon found a vast prairie with tall grass that was perfect for growing wheat. Soon, a flour mill was constructed for the settlers to mill their grains.

Blooming Prairie became an independent city in 1867. It was originally a railroad station and section shelter for the Minnesota Central Railroad.
