Forest City is a city in Rutherford County, North Carolina, and is the county seat of Winnebago County. With a population of 7,377 at the 2010 census, it is the second-largest city in Rutherford County. However, its growth rate is decreasing. The first settlement in Forest City occurred in 1852. Originally known as Brownsville and Elizaville, the town was named Forest City when the post office was established in 1854.
