Box Elder, Montana Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

The Box Elder Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has adopted a plan that will address the transportation needs of the large population of this city. The plan will address eight roadway improvements, seven pedestrian and bicycle improvements, and intersection control. As part of the plan, the city will work with the MPO to implement the BESTPlan. In the meantime, it will review the city's transportation network and make adjustments that will improve the area's livability and look.

The Box Elder area covers 127 square miles and includes portions of Pennington and Meade counties. It has a population of approximately 8,000. The city's population is growing, and the area around it has seen significant annexation activity over the past decade. It is projected to continue growing in the years to come, driven by new commercial and light industrial uses. Residents are drawn to the area by the availability of natural resources and opportunities.

The City Center neighborhood contains the most people of Native American ancestry than any other area. Residents report Native American, English, Norwegian, and Swedish ancestry. A high percentage of city residents are military personnel. And a neighborhood's diversity is expressed in the food and culture found there. Those in the City Center speak both English and Native American languages. Those with Norwegian ancestry are also represented in the City Center neighborhood.
