History of Crow Agency: This city began as a small settlement on Mission Creek, just east of Livingston, Montana, in 1868. In 1875, miners encroached on Crow lands in the Absaroka Range, and the reservation was reduced. The first Crow Agency was built within the ceded lands, then relocated to its present location north of Absarokee, Montana. The second Crow Agency was established 66 miles east of Fort Parker, Montana, on the Stillwater River, a tributary to the Yellowstone River.
