Martin City, Missouri is an unincorporated town located near the intersection of Holmes and 135th streets in present-day Kansas City. The city was originally known as Tilden when it was first platted in 1887. It got its name after Samuel Jones Tilden, a presidential candidate in 1876 who lost by a single electoral vote to Rutherford B. Hayes. In 1895, the city was incorporated and was renamed Martin City.
