Rockaway, New Jersey Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

The Borough of Rockaway is located in New York State's southeast corner on the Hudson River. The most comfortable months for living in Rockaway are August and July. The coldest month is January. The largest metro area is New York City, which is comprised of the island of Manhattan and the eight-county region immediately north. It also includes western Long Island and Staten Island. The population of Rockaway is 26,054 people, and it is growing by 3.1% by the year 2020.

The area is also home to new businesses and retail establishments. A new stop and shop grocery store and a Chase bank branch have opened in the area. Many new businesses are also gaining traction, such as Subway sandwiches and other fast food chains. However, many residents are wary of these establishments, as they are highly biased toward whites. A more accurate population estimate is possible if there are any changes in the town's zoning laws.

The area's history as a summer resort was short-lived. The area became more diverse and prosperous after World War II, as the post-war economic boom enriched its residents and favored more luxurious digs. While many bungalows on the western end of Rockaway City have been preserved and protected by historic districts, there were not many who lived here year-round. The arrival of the subway in 1956 convinced many people that Rockaway was a viable year-round residence. This resulted in a greater diversity of people than in many other areas of Queens that experienced "white flight."
