The population of Kirtland is 6,937 as of the 2020 census. This Ohio city is located in Lake County and has a total area of 16.7 square miles. The city is home to the Kirtland Temple, which was completed in 1836. The population is mainly affluent and lives in houses with an average price of $296,100. The median age in Kirtland is 48.9 years for males and 47.8 years for females.

The town began to grow after the end of World War II, with the development of residential subdivisions. In 1957, the town built its first high school, along with an elementary school on Chardon Rd. (US 6). The city expanded into a larger area after the opening of Interstate 90 in 1965. The population continued to grow into the 1980s, and in 1980, a murder case occurred in the town. Jeffrey Lundgren coerced several family members to murder five people. He was found guilty of the crime and executed on October 24, 2006.

The population of Kirtland City is relatively young, with a median age of 46.9 years. One-fourth of the population is under the age of 18.
