Scipio is located in Millard County, Utah. Its population was 290 at the time of the 2000 census. The town was first settled in 1859, and early names included Craball and Round Valley. The community was named for Scipio Africanus Kenner, a young lawyer who helped the pioneers obtain legal titles to their land. In 1861, George A. Smith organized a branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Scipio. The town also had Fort Scipio.
