Grandy, North Carolina Statistic: Population, Charts, Map, Steets and More

The demographics of Grandy City are quite diverse. While the median age of the population was 30.8 years, nearly twenty-seven percent of its population was under the age of eighteen. Among this group were twenty-one percent of those aged 18 to 24 and fourteen percent of those between the ages of 25 and 44. In addition, twenty-eight percent of its residents were between the ages of 45 and 64. Of course, this means that almost forty-seven percent of the population is either single or living with a significant other. Also, the gender makeup was approximately equal at 51.7% female and 48.7% male.

Historically, most of Grand Rapids' third wards were developed by nonprofits. In recent years, this trend has continued and led to the decline of the Black population. A new study found that the area was only 47 percent black - less than half the racial mix of the city as a whole. The city has worked hard to improve this aspect of its demographics by allowing more for-profit development, which increases tax capture and general appeal. The current city leaders are doing all they can to change that trend. While they cannot mandate development, they can provide incentives and policies that encourage development.

In 1824, the first improved road into Grand Rapids was built by Baptist missionary Rev. L. Slater and two other settlers. The missionary mission consisted of a log cabin for Slater and a schoolhouse. He later returned to Grand Rapids and established a missionary station in the city. Today, the city is home to several colleges, including Davenport University and Calvin University.
