The town of Kernersville, North Carolina, is located in the northwest corner of the state. It is nine miles east of Winston-Salem and seventy-five miles northeast of Charlotte, NC. The population of Kernersville was estimated at 23,123 in the 2010 census, a substantial increase over the town's population of seventeen thousand in 2000. The town was founded by Jacob Story in 1756 and was originally known as Dobson's Crossroads. Later, Joseph Kerner purchased the land and changed the name to Kernersville.
