Georgetown is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. The city's population is forecast to increase by 21% to 40% in the next seven years. The town is the county seat of Williamson County and is about 30 miles north of Austin. The city is home to an award-winning downtown, with Victorian era storefronts and a revitalized Courthouse. Its diverse offerings of restaurants, wineries and quality merchants offer a wide variety of lifestyle options. The city also maintains more than thirty parks, including the historic square, and 9 miles of trails that connect to Lake Georgetown.

Georgetown has been home to people since at least 9,000 BCE and may have been inhabited before then. Its earliest inhabitants were part of the Clovis culture, a Paleo-Indian group that is known for manufacturing Clovis points. This culture was present in the area around 9200 BCE, and may have lasted as long as 11,500 BCE.

Georgetown is located in the northern part of the Texas Hill Country. Its central business district is protected by a local historic ordinance. It includes 46 contributing structures and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Georgetown is also home to the annual Red Poppy Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
