Reno, Nevada, is a city located in the state of Nevada. Founded in 1855, the city was named after the Union officer who worked there. It grew as a mining town and the Virginia and Truckee Railroad connected the city with Las Vegas. The railroad's arrival spurred the city's growth. The town became a business and agricultural center, and its economy began to diversify.

Although there is some diversity in the city, its demographic makeup is overwhelmingly conservative, with a predominant white population. The city is also home to a large Native American population. Its diverse culture is well represented by its plethora of ethnic and cultural cuisines.
