This city was notorious for its anti-Semitic activity during the Nazi period. As of January 1930, a Social Democrat named Franz Klingler was attacked. Jewish citizens began to be attacked in public, and police were suspected of collaborating with Nazis. On the occasion of former Chancellor Hermann Muller's visit to Coburg, the SA raided the SPD. When SPD rally participants returned home, twenty-two Nazis attacked them.

The town is home to several parks, including Victoria Park.
