Grants Pass is the county seat of Josephine County, Oregon. It is situated northwest of Medford on the Rogue River. In the 1820s, Hudson's Bay Company trappers and hunters passed through this area, and the Applegate Trail led settlers to the Willamette Valley. The city was named after General Ulysses S. Grant, and it was incorporated in 1887.

In the 2010 census, the city's population was 19,061. The median age was 39.3 years, and 31.1% of the population was under the age of 18.
