The population of Grass Valley is twelve thousand and seventy-six people. This number is expected to increase slightly by the year 2020, but the average commute time is still a little over 15 minutes. The city's home ownership rate is 38.4%, which is lower than the national average. The median home price in Grass Valley is $530,300, and the housing market has appreciated by 7.8% in the last 10 years.

Nevada County is located in the western part of the Sierra Nevada mountains. This historic region played an important role in the California Gold Rush, and is home to three incorporated cities. The Sierra Nevada mountains are abundant with gold-strewn rivers. Despite the Depression of the 1930s, the region's economy continued to grow.
