Eau Claire is located in northwest Wisconsin and was incorporated in 1872. The city has a diverse economy ranging from manufacturing to health care, information technology, and retail trade. The city is home to Christ Church Cathedral, Sacred Heart Church, and St. Patrick's Church. Other notable local institutions include the Community House, First Congregational Church, and Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. The city's University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire adds a college-town flavor to the community. Outside the downtown core, light manufacturing and retail development are prevalent.
