The Vaucluse City is located in the French department of Provence. The region is bordered to the west by the Rhone and to the south by the Durance. This region is famous for the Fontaine de Vaucluse, which is the source of the river Sorgue. The name Vaucluse is derived from the Latin Vallis Clausa, which means closed valley.

The Vaucluse Departmental Council was led by Dominique Santoni since 2021, replacing Maurice Chabert. The council is comprised of 34 members, including the Left Front with two seats, the Socialist Party with seven seats, and the Europe Ecology - The Greens with three. Other parties with representation on the Vaucluse Departmental Council include the National Rally, Ligue du Sud, and the Liberal Party.
