The Isabela city mayor's seat was once held by Wahab M. Akbar, a former three-term Basilan governor and clan patriarch. Wahab Akbar was three-term governor, elected to the House of Representatives in November 2007, and was killed in a bombing in the same building. The city was also home to the first mayor, Luis R. Biel II. However, he was assassinated by a lone gunman in the city's city hall.
