The first census of Drummonds City was conducted in 1920, the year the town incorporated. The population peaked at 482 in the 1980 census, and has grown since then, primarily due to the oil boom. Despite its growing population, Drummond remains a small town that relies on agriculture for its livelihood. In the 2000 census, there were 405 residents.

Currently, the Covent Hotel at 2653 N Clark Street near W Drummond Place in Chicago is scheduled for redevelopment. The historic hotel will be converted into affordable studios. The National Historic Preservation Foundation is leading the project. The redevelopment is anticipated to start in 2019.

The city is home to many notable public buildings. The Carlton Club was built in 1889 by Inskip & Robertson and features decorative Australian native kangaroo gargoyles. In addition, the Court House and Police Station were both built in the 1880s. Also located in Drummonds City is the Bali Memorial, which was dedicated in honor of those killed in the 2002 Bali bombings.
