The city of Dunn is located in the North Carolina state. Dunn is one of the larger cities in the state and is the anchor of the Dunn Micropolitan Area. It is also part of the greater Raleigh-Durham-Cary CSA. Originally, Dunn was known as Lucknow, but was later renamed to its current name. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,263.

Dunn County's zoning ordinances are in place to guide development into appropriate areas and protect the existing property. Zoning ordinances generally define different zoning districts, which indicate what types of development are allowed within each. They also set minimum lot sizes, building heights, and setback requirements. The Town of Dunn is a participant in the Dunn County Comprehensive Zoning initiative. The county is currently rewriting its zoning ordinance and working with each town to identify appropriate areas for new developments.

In the 2010 Census, there were 7,347 residents in Dunn City. The population was comprised of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Twenty-one percent of households were headed by a woman. In the north-central part of the town, there was a single substation. A school in Dunn serves children from preschool through third grade. Those ages eighteen and over are sent to Triton High School in Erwin.

Four Oaks Bank & Trust Company established their branch in Dunn on 2000/04/24. Their headquarters are in Fuquay Varina. Despite this, their income for the year 2000 was negative. This means that Dunn County is currently in the process of implementing long-term regional plans for its citizens. The Town of Weston does not have a long-term regional plan for development.
