Ennis, Texas, is a small city in Ellis County, Texas. In 1914, the population was approximately 6,600. The city was served by four banks, a cotton gins, cottonseed oil mill, mattress factory, and ice factory. It was home to 205 businesses in 1930. Ennis was mostly an agricultural community. In 1940, there were nearly two million people living in Ennis.

The population of Ennis City is approximately 18,513 as of the 2010 Census. The population is expected to grow to around 22,000 by the year 2020. Ennis is located in eastern Ellis County, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It is home to the annual National Polka Festival. Founded in 1871, the city has been a growing and thriving community for many years.

In response to the crisis, the county council began consultations on the development of an alternative pedestrian street plan. This plan is aimed at improving safety and preventing social distancing. Currently, however, no decision on pedestrianisation has been made. However, residents and businesses are concerned about the effects of a decline in footfall. The closure of streets has forced shoppers to the shopping centres outside the town.

The Ennis city park, Kachina Prairie, is a city park that preserves untouched Texas blackland prairie. The town's bluebonnet trail was officially marked through the prairie in 1938. The city has a city manager/city commissioner type of government, and voters elect a City Marshal every two years. The City Council then names the winning candidate for Chief of Police. After John Erisman retired, Andy Harvey was appointed.
